C. Michael Cotten, MD, MHS

Dr. Cotten is the Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and the Director of Neonatology Clinical Research at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. His clinical research interests include optimizing care for newborns with evidenced-based practice while his special interests are infectious disease in low birth weight infants, perinatal asphyxia, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, and the genomic approach to neonatal diseases.  

The Neonatal Research Network trial, "Anonymized DNA Bank and Linked Databases," was initiated and developed by Dr. Cotten.  He is developing a prospectively collected DNA sample bank for premature infants. Dr. Cotten successfully proposed that NRN enter the field of Genomic Medicine with development of an anonymized DNA bank linked with each sample's anonymized clinical data. The NRN created a Genomics Subcommittee for which Dr. Cotten serves as a pivotal consultant.
