W. Dalton Dietrich, III, PhD

Dr. Dietrich is the Scientific Director for the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, and he is the Professor of Neurosurgery, Neurology, Cell Biology, and Anatomy as well as the Vice-Chair for Research in Neurological Surgery at the University of Miami. Dr. Dietrich was part of the research group that originally demonstrated the beneficial effects of mild hypothermia in an animal model of cerebral ischemia.  He was also involved with showing that mild levels of fever (hyperthermia) produced adverse effects in models of cerebral ischemia and trauma.

His primary research interest is in CNS injury and repair, including both neuroprotective and reparative strategies. He has over 200 peer-reviewed publications in well-respected medical and scientific journals.
